St Thomas' Conor Cooney is out in front of Sean Loftus of Turloughmore

St Thomas' 1-14
Turloughmore 0-15

St Thomas made it three Galway senior hurling championships in-a-row this afternoon by seeing off Turloughmore with two points to spare at Kenny Park, Athenry.

Conor Cooney’s goal have the holders an ideal start to this decider but Turloughmore battled back to go in all square at the interval (1-6 to 0-9) despite losing Daithi Burke to a leg injury.

Burke would return late on in the game but couldn’t help his team to a first title since 1985, as Cooney, Eanna Burke and Brendan Farrell shot the points that got St Thomas' over the line once again.

It was Conor Walsh and Sean Linnane that pulled back the points for Turloughmore - appearing in their first county final in 30 years - after captain Cooney had goaled early on for the victors, ensuring they’d go in level at the break.

The champions made the better start to the second-half with points from Cooney and Oisin Flannery before Turloughmore stormed in front.

Linnane registered a brace of points and Sean Loftus also raised the umpire’s flag before Linnane sailed over to move his side into a 0-15 to 1-11 lead.

St Thomas' held their nerve in the closing stages however and after points from Cooney and Burke put them back in the ascendency, Farrell landed the insurance point to make sure that the Tom Callinan Cup would be resting with ‘The Toms’ for another year at least.
