Louth SHC final: Knockbridge comeback floors St Fechin's

October 03, 2020

Knockbridge are Louth senior hurling champions for the 12th time

Knockbridge captured their second Louth senior hurling championship title in three years after defeating St Fechin’s by 3-16 to 2-14 in Darver.

Shane Fennell and Gareth Hall struck the all important goals early in the second-half to do away with a seven-point deficit and pave the path towards victory, handing St Fechin’s a fourth consecutive final defeat in the process.

Paddy Lynch’s 28th minute goal had helped St Fechin’s to lead by 1-9 to 1-5 at the half, after Gerard McKeown had hit their net 10 minutes into this decider.

The Saints then looked like running away with it when Peter Fortune blasted in their second major just a minute into the restart, but Knockbridge responded brilliantly.

Fennell hammered home the victors’ second goal on 35 minutes and three minutes later they’d be in the lead when Hall broke through and raised the umpire’s green flag, making it 3-7 to 2-9.

The closing 20 minutes saw Knockbridge outscore their opponents by 0-9 to 0-5 to ensure the club’s 12th senior hurling championship success.
