McGovern Park in Ruislip hosted the first competitive GAA match in the UK in six months yesterday when Brothers Pearse and St Gabriel's met in the first round of the London SHC.
It was Brothers Pearse who made a winning start, beating St Gabriel's 4-12 to 1-17 as the Provincial Council of Britain were given the green light by the UK Government to restart its competitions.
In a later throw-in at the London GAA county grounds, Robert Emmetts got their title defence up and running with a 2-28 to 3-11 victory over Fr Murphy’s.
Britain GAA's return to action came on the same day the GAA announced the removal of UK county teams from this year’s All-Ireland championships.
