Castlerahan had minimal fuss in the opening round of their Cavan senior football championship defence last night as they handed Shercock a comprehensive 1-18 to 0-9 defeat at Kingspan Breffni.
Pauric Smith’s goal two minutes in provided the holders with the perfect start and they’d have 1-4 on the board before Ryan Clerkin shot over Shercock’s first on nine minutes.
Paul Cusack, Karl Cosgrave and Oisin O’Connell all raised white flags to bump Castlerahan’s lead up to 1-8 to 0-2 at the half and there’d be no let up from the champions after the restart.
After Sean Clarke grabbed Shercock’s third point, the leaders hit four without reply, including a brace from midfielder Cormac Daly.
Shercock were in need of goals after that but they simply never came the way of the Monaghan border men against what was a stingy Castlerahan defence, conceding just 0-7 from play over the hour.
Next up for the Oliver Plunkett Cup holders is a date with Lacken this Sunday at Kingspan Breffni (throw-in 7.30pm).
