Following recommendations from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), an announcement was made this evening by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar of the further lifting of Covid-19 restrictions and all sporting activities, including those sports with close contact such as football and hurling, can resume from June 29.

The Government have given the official green light for all sports to get back up and running across the country on Monday week as plans for Phase Three in their reconfigured roadmap are being rolled out.

It means contact training can recommence on June 29, having originally been scheduled to resume from July 20. As it stands, club championship fixtures are set to resume from July 31, with inter-county games allowed by the middle of October.

The GAA may decide to stick with their own route to return or move forward with these recommendations.
