The GAA could return to action on 20 July but only "where limitations are placed on the numbers of spectators and where social distancing can be maintained."

With the current lockdown on restrictions extended until 18 May, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has announced a five-phase plan to re-open Ireland from there on, depending totally on the spread of Covid-19.

On 20 July (phase 4), it is proposed that "competitions for sports teams (for example, soccer and GAA) can resume, but only where limitations are placed on the numbers of spectators and where social distancing can be maintained."

Further restrictions will be lifted on 10 August (phase 5) when "spectators can begin to attend live sporting events only in accordance with both indoor and outdoor numbers restrictions and where social distancing can be complied with."

The GAA has been suspended since early March to comply with government guidelines in relation to the coronavirus and it is expected that priority will be given to club activity over inter-county level when it resumes.
