Death of Westmeath hurling stalwart Mick Power

Cullion Legend Jack Power presents the Adrian Murray Cup to captains Jack Galvin and Robbie Gillen.

The Westmeath hurling fraternity is mourning the passing of Mick Power.

Mick gave outstanding service to his club Cullion and to Westmeath, having served as hurling board chairman during the 1980s when the county came close to breaking into hurling's elite. He hailed from a great Cullion hurling family and was delighted to present the Adrian Murray Cup to his grandson Jack Galvin after their long-awaited Westmeath IHC triumph last October.

Predeceased by his wife Nonie, Mick will be reposing at his daughter Joan's house in Brockagh, Knockdrin, Mullingar tomorrow (Saturday) from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. Removal tomorrow evening to The Church of the Assumption, Taughmon for 6.30pm. Funeral Mass Sunday at 11.30am with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
