HL1: Rebels squeeze past Tipp

Cork's Damien Cahalane has a shot on goal against Tipperary

Cork took the points in a pulsating all-Munster clash at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, edging out Tipperary by 2-24 to 1-25.

Both the winners’ goals arrived during the course of a brilliant first half where the scores were level eight times, Robbie O’Flynn pouncing in the eleventh minute to make it 1-4 to 0-5 before Patrick Horgan’s 39th-minute penalty handed the hosts a 2-13 to 0-15 interval advantage. Great entertainment for the 9,821 mortals in attendance!

Padraic Maher had nudged the Premier County ahead on the stroke of the break but late points from Mark Coleman and Darragh Fitzgibbon followed by that converted penalty from Cork's captain turned the game on its head.

The scores continued to flow like tall stories on a stag weekend - outrageous and from all angles - and there was a dramatic finish to the game when a bullet to the net from visiting goalkeeper Brian Hogan (penalty) brought the All-Ireland champions back within the minimum with 67 minutes played but the Leesiders held on held on for their first win of the campaign, Seamus Harnedy closing out the scoring, as Tipp lost again.
