It was a torrid weekend for Leitrim football.

On Saturday, the county's U20s suffered a 28-point defeat (1-3 to 5-19) to Longford in the Philly McGuinness Development League and that was followed by a 30-point mauling (0-6 to 7-16) for the seniors at the hands of Roscommon in the Connacht FBD League.

While Leitrim senior boss Terry Hyland was without a host of regulars for yesterday's defeat, the result doesn't bode well ahead of his side's Allianz League Division 3 campaign. This time last year, Leitrim only lost to Mayo on penalties in the Connacht FBD League before going on to achieve promotion from Division 4.

Roscommon manager Anthony Cunningham offered words of encouragement for Leitrim when saying: "They may have been a bit understrength, they'll have better days for sure with Terry and the gang."
