Death of Dublin scoring machine Johnny Joyce

The death has taken place of legendary Dublin footballer Johnny Joyce.

Dublin GAA has paid tribute to legendary footballer Johnny Joyce who died this week.

The St Vincent's clubman scored a whopping 39-55 in 61 appearances for the Dubs between 1956 and '63, and is the county's second highest goal-scorer of all-time. He hit the net five times in Dublin's 1958 All-Ireland winning campaign, and famously posted 5-3 against Longford in a Leinster SFC quarter-final clash at Cusack Park, Mullingar in 1960. Indeed, Johnny had strong claims for scoring a sixth goal in that game, but it was 'officially' recorded as an o.g.

As well as winning the Sam Maguire in 1958, Johnny won an All-Ireland minor medal in 1955 (scoring 2-1 in the final), four Leinster SFC medals and two Railway Cups with Leinster.
