Charlie Redmond rates Diarmuid Connolly as Dublin’s best-ever forward.
Having missed out on last year’s All-Ireland win, Connolly surprisingly re-joined Jim Gavin’s all-conquering squad this summer and could feature against Kerry in Sunday’s decider at Croke Park.
“Diarmuid Connolly is the greatest forward Dublin has ever produced — and when you think of what we’ve produced over the years in Hanahoe, Keaveney, Hickey, O’Toole, Kevin Heffernan himself ... this guy is the best,” the 2005 All-Ireland winner is quoted in The Irish Sun.
“Did I think we’d see him in a Dublin jersey this season? No, I thought that boat had sailed. Even when he didn’t get into America, I didn’t think we’d see him in a Dublin jersey.
“But I’m absolutely thrilled that he’s back, albeit it puts pressure on other forwards — that’s what you want. We saw it two years ago when he came on in 2017. He changed the whole game. He has that ability. I’d have no doubt that he’s getting better and better with the training he’s been doing with Dublin the last few weeks.”
