Offaly to celebrate silver jubilee of 1994 hurling success

April 07, 2019

Offaly's All-Ireland SHC winning team from 1994.

Offaly’s 1994 All-Ireland hurling champions will be feted at an event to mark the silver jubilee of their famous victory over Limerick.

With Treaty County legend Eamonn Cregan in their corner, the tricolours seemed to be facing certain defeat when they trailed Tom Ryan's Limerick by 1-11 to 2-13 with five minutes remaining in the All-Ireland final. But a Johnny Dooley goal from a 20-metre free proved the catalyst for a sensational Offaly comeback.

No sooner had Joe Quaid pucked out the ball than he was beaten for a second time by a strike from substitute Pat O'Connor. Limerick were shell-shocked as the Faithful went on to add another five points - including three from the out-of-breath Billy Dooley - in a whirlwind finish.

RTE’s Marty Morrissey will be MC for the celebration which takes place in the Tullamore Court Hotel on Friday, May 10. The Offaly team and mentors will be joined by Kilkenny’s Christy Heffernan, Galway’s Joe Cooney, Martin Storey of Wexford and the Limerick duo TJ Ryan and Dave Clarke for the day-long event which kicks off at 2pm and costs €125 per person.
