HL1A: 14-man Tipp downed by late Nolan strike

February 17, 2019

Seamus Casey celebrates a Wexford point against Tipperary at Innovate Wexford Park

An injury-time Aidan Nolan point saw Wexford claim the spoils against 14-man Tipperary in today’s round 3 encounter at Innovate Wexford Park.

Davy Fitzgerald’s charges prevailed by the narrowest of margins – 1-15 to 1-14 – thanks to Nolan’s late white flag.

Tipperary will point to the 34th minute dismissal of Noel McGrath for a second yellow card offence as a mitigating factor in their second defeat of the campaign.

The visitors led by 1-7 to 0-6 at the change of ends after captain Seamus Callanan raised a green flag inside the opening minute.

They coped well with their numerical disadvantage during the early second-half exchanges but Wexford subsequently hit a purple patch that yielded 1-5 without reply.

Seamus Casey's 45th minute goal reduced Tipperary's lead to just three points (1-11 to 1-8) and a Kevin Foley point got Wexford back on level terms shortly after.

It was nip and tuck for the remainder of the contest before Nolan collected a pass from Lee Chin and sent over the match-winning score.
