Former Galway footballer Fergal Gavin would surely have had mixed emotions when the Tribesman faced Dublin in Croke Park on Saturday night.

The Mountbellew-Moylough clubman and 1998 All-Ireland winner saw his son Darren make his Allianz League debut off the bench in the closing stages for the Dubs as they handed an understrength Galway a 1-15 to 0-7 defeat.

A member of the Lucan Sarsfields club, Gavin was man of the match when Dublin also defeated Galway in the 2017 All-Ireland U21FC final at Bord na Mona O'Connor Park in Tullamore.
