Hurling was introduced to millions of TV viewers in the US this week by an unlikely source.

Ireland's national game featured on the popular Fox animated sitcom Bob's Burgers. It's believed Irish commedienne and show-writer Sharon Horgan, who plays Cathleen in the sitcom, was responsible for the scene in which her character is watching a game of hurling between Tipperary and Cork on a TV.

When asked by fellow character Teddy what hurling is all about, Cathleen jokingly replied: "It's like if hockey, soccer and baseball had a baby and they joined a gang that liked to balance eggs!"
