A Galway nurse came to the rescue of an elderly Limerick supporter after he suffered a heart attack following last Sunday's All-Ireland senior hurling final.

Claire Dolphin from Mullagh saved 71-year-old George Barnby's life by performing CPR on him after he fell ill on the Luas near Abbey Street.

"A lady asked for help," Claire explained to the Limerick Leader.

"He was unresponsive. It all happened so fast. I got up and did what anybody would have done. My training just kicked in. There wasn't a pulse or anything. I started CPR, there was a Limerick lady who helped out.

"I started chest compressions while we waited for the paramedics. It was about 10 minutes. I just did what we are meant to do."

George was taken to the Mater Hospital where he has been making a good recovery this week.
