Former Clare hurler Niall Gilligan is showing no signs of slowing down as he is still producing the goods for his club Sixmilebridge.

The 42-year-old came off the bench to score 0-02 in the 'bridge's 0-23 to 1-13 win over an understrength Clonlara side in the opening round of the Clare SHC last weekend.

Gilligan won an All-Ireland SHC title with Clare back in 1997 and 21 years later, he is is still togging out for his club.

Clare star Jamie Shanahan who hit 0-13 for the defending champions in that win over Clonlara, admitted to the Clare Champion that Gilligan is ageless.

"It was nice to be able to bring on the likes of 'Gilli'. I know we've been saying for the last seven years that he might be done but he came on and scored two very important points," said Shanahan.

"It's things like that will get you over the line. Everything is about getting over the line on the first day."
