Members of Na Fianna GAA club are breathing a sigh of relief today as the National Transport Authority are expected to do a U-turn on their construction plans for the Metrolink.

The home club of GAA President John Horan and the wider Glasnevin community were up in arms after it emerged that they could lose the use of their main pitch and two all-weather pitches during the construction phase of the Metrolink.

That would have meant that the facilities were out of bounds to their 125 team and 4,000 active members for a minimum of three years and potentially seven years.

Home Farm Football Club would have been affected under the proposals.

RTE.ie is reporting that the NTA is due to appear before the Oireachtas Transport Committee this afternoon and is expected to inform the committee it is moving towards looking at a single large tunnel for the €3bn project, rather than a smaller tunnel in each direction.

Local Fine Gael TD Noel Rock informed Morning Ireland that there will be "no disruption to the playing grounds as such but some construction disruption for a period of 18 months to two years for a station."
