Down manager Eamonn Burns is facing a potential eight-week ban for pushing a Cavan player during Saturday night's stormy Allianz Football League Division 2 encounter at Kingspan Breffni.

Burns was sent off just before half-time by Kerry referee Padraig O'Sullivan for shoving Oisin Kiernan in the neck, and is expected to be charged under Rule 7.2 (c) IIa, which covers any type of physical interference with an opposing player or team official.

Burns was remorseful about the incident, admitting to the Irish News: "Managers shouldn't be in those situations. It was heat of the moment. There was nobody hurt."
