Offaly GAA pay tribute to legendary hurler and two-time All-Ireland winning selector

January 31, 2018

The late Pat McLoughney (middle) was a selector with manager Michael Bond (left) when Offaly won the All Ireland SHC in 1998.

Offaly GAA are mourning the sad passing of Pat McLoughney who was a member of the team that won the county's first Leinster SHC title in 1980.

The Coolderry clubman lined out at right corner-back on the history making side that overcame Kilkenny by 3-17 to 5-10 thirty-eight years ago.

He made his senior debut in the Faithful County jersey in 1971 and he bowed out of the inter-county scene on a high after that success.

He would later serve as a selector on the All-Ireland winning teams of 1994 and 1998 under Eamon Cregan and Michael Bond respectively.

Pat's medal collection also included three Offaly SHC titles with Coolderry while he was a selector with the team that captured county honours in 2015.
