Five red cards were handed out at the end of an ill-tempered Allianz Football League clash at the Athletic Grounds as Armagh got the better of All-Ireland champions Tyrone to maintain their winning start in Division 1.

Tyrone, who were defeated 2-14 to 0-14, finished with just 11 players after Kieran McGeary, Peter Harte, Michael McKernan and Padraig Hampsey were given their marching orders by referee David Gough, while Armagh had defender Greg McCabe sent off following a mass brawl in injury-time.

When they let loose in front of a crowd of 14,328 spectators, Armagh's dynamic young forwards couldn't be stopped and they made the All-Ireland champions look very ordinary indeed, backing up their opening round win over Dublin at Croke Park with another stylish victory.

Wearing all-black, Kieran McGeeney's side were completely on top in the first-half and goals from McCabe and Jason Duffy in the 6th and 36th minutes respectively saw them home and hosed at the turnaround, 2-8 to 0-4.

In the latter stages, Tyrone closed the gap to six points with three Cathal McShane frees but they suffered a disciplinary meltdown thereafter, with a raft of suspensions to come.

Mayo also picked up a big win in the northern province this afternoon when they travelled to St Tiernach's Park and beat Monaghan 2-10 to 1-11 after the game had been held up by a first-half injury to defender Eoghan McLaughlin.

The hosts almost snatched victory at the death when Ryan McAnespie forced Paddy Durcan into an impressive goal line clearance.

A Jack McCarron free ensured Monaghan went in at the break with a slender 1-7 to 1-8 advantage after McCarron and the influential Ryan O'Donoghue traded goals.

O'Donoghue finished with 1-6 and was well supported in attack by Jason Doherty, whose 52nd minute goal swung the tie for James Horan's men.

Donegal overcame the loss of talisman Michael Murphy to injury as they eased to a 2-11 to 1-9 victory over Kildare in Ballybofey.

Ryan McHugh's injury-time goal left Declan Bonner's men 2-7 to 1-4 up at half-time and they kept a safe cushion for the remainder of the contest.

A 22nd minute goal from Jimmy Hyland had Kildare in front for the first and only time but Paddy McBrearty replied in kind shortly after.
