Congress passes senior and U20 inter-county eligibility motion

GAA Congress has passed a motion that is set to remove the seven-day ruling which prevents players from playing senior and U20 championship games.
Delegates in Newry’s Canal Court Hotel voted 71.5% in favour of the motion and that will see it coming into place next year.
The rule applied to Tier One and Two football and the Tier One hurling championships, but a 60-hour restriction for players will now apply to all Tiers.
GPA CEO Tom Parsons stated: "We'd also like to support the motion. We need to address competition load. Our most talented players have a huge load with the competitions. I'm asking Congress and the delegates to really look at motions at addressing player load and burnout."
Meanwhile, players red-carded in normal time will no longer be able to be replaced at the start of extra time after Motion 22 was passed this afternoon.
Delegates voted 87% in favour of the motion and it reads that "cards, in all circumstances, issued in normal time would carry forward into extra-time."
