Ex-Antrim football star Frankie Wilson passes away

Former Antrim football star Frankie Wilson has died at the age of 52 after a battle with cancer.

The Lamh Dhearg clubman played with Antrim during the 1990s and early 2000s and also played soccer in the Irish League, having stints with Cliftonville, Ballyclare Comrades, Bangor and Omagh Town.

In later years, Frankie’s managerial stint saw him in charge of Sport & Leisure Swifts, Lurgan Celtic and Bangor.

In June of last year, he was appointed Banbridge Town.

Antrim GAA posted the following after news of Frankie’s passing this morning:

“CLG Aontroma send our heartfelt condolences on the sad news that former Antrim Gael Frankie Wilson has sadly passed away after a great battle with illness. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends from all of us and everyone throughout the county. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
