They're not verified.

Post Reply : That seems silly that someone could steal anyone's e-mail address to join. Especially when all it would take is an automated message to the e-mail address confirming the use."
Apologies Canuck. I misunderstood your question. The e-mail for an account is verified. But no verifyication that the account is from a real person or that a poster couldn't have multiple accounts using different e-mails set up just for tge purpose of opening another Hoganstand forum username. I think, years ago, anyone could post without an account and choose a username when they posted.

I honestly don't know but this is very, very strange. What happens if a poster on here using someone's e-mail address is involved or refers to something illegal and the authorities only way of following up is with the owner of the address ?

How many email accounts are used not by the owner to post on an anonymous forum. Of all things to do if you had access to an email address.

How would you verify accounts and would that really be better? Surely other improvements would be better than that?

This is very odd behaviour. You spend so much time on a site that you keep telling us is in need of improvement and not a patch on the other sites you frequent. How much time must you spend on these other better sites ??? Very strange.

If you spend more time on these other sites , why bother with this one ? If it's so backward , why bother ? Unless, perhaps , you are not just any poster !

Who are you to say how i spend this time. this site offers different viewpoints you dont see as much elsewhere so its chance to debate differently.

And just to clarify, I really don't care how you spend your time but just find your constant revisiting of a site so frequently that is so much poorer than these other sites you visit and your criticism of it contradictory.
By the way , which other sites are you referring to and what names are you posting under on them ?

if you interact with a site a lot then would you not want the best site possible?
ive mentioned the sites before. boards.ie. And i wont mention what name i use there as i dont think thats any of your concern.
And the layout and features actually very much affect debate and different viewpoints. posts dont go up instantaneously which doesnt help debate. no private messaging and all other features of many other forum websites all strengthen a forum

There should be a bit more use of Gaelic on the forums imho.

Sites ? Boards.ie , that's hardly an argument for change. I actually doubt you are as active as you say.

In specific threads only tbh.
What benefits would it bring to the forum though?

Those are no guarantees of quality in terms of poster or discussion which is most important.

how its designed and allows posts go up certainly guarantees a better quality discussion than here

Why do you copy and paste everything when there's a 'post reply' button and then complain about things not being modern enough on here?

been following this thread the last few days and the majority of people seem pretty content with how things are working currently. I think the fact that the comments are moderated blocks a lot of the nonsense you see on some sites like Journal.ie and the childish back and forth on the comments section. You get a small bit of that on here but you'll still get that if you use a different format.
