Cavan v Roscommon

Shameful, slow and tedious build up play, our lads have forgotten how to play direct football, or are not allowed to. It will be some job of work to change this around but it MUST change!!! Every team in the country knows how to play Cavan with this system.

I hope no one is bringing underage players to watch this shite that cavan both senior and under 21 teams are playing for the past few years regardless of the under 21 results. We have developed a system which is hard to break down and play against and that has given us 4 under 21 ulster victories. As a spectacle you could not watch this style of football. I would much prefer to see Cavan go out and try to play football win or lose.

a disgrace, cant go watch them again, terrible football , good players are slowly gettin worst with this so called system we are playin, was totally wrong bringin on junior captain and rulin him out for the all ireland semi, i think its time for a change at the top and bring in an attacking minded man who will take the best players in the county along with him as there are alot out there that are not in with the set up this year

That was a toothless display from Cavan to score only 5 points in a do or die championship game is an absolute disgrace. The players showed no heart no passion, and the management were clueless. They tried to beat Roscommon at their own game, but time after time we gave the ball away needlessly. Keating lived off scraps the whole game with hardly anyone to support him, once the ball was played into him. Cavan were still in it at HT despite roscommon having kicked about half a dozen wides, but 2nd half it was completely one-sided, far too open at the back and I lost count the amount of times Gilsenan gave the ball away from wayward kick outs. We had no midfield, McKiernan was anonymous and Givney was non-existent when introduced. We need a clear out of sub standard players. People talked last year about the strength in depth of the panel, bar a few injuries there is very little competition in the panel. It will take a huge rebuilding process to get Cavan well again and last year was a flash in the pan for definite.

Disgusted with that.
We are getting worse and have gone back 10 years.
Gutless, tame and clueless -- both team and management.
Players not able to kick the ball over the bar from 30 yards even with the wind. Timid wee lads being bossed about by men. Shameful.

Terrible football but not totally unexpected...supporters should demand their money back after that....

I've been sayin this for ages, WE HAVE NO QUALITY FORWARDS.
Didn't go tonight because I could see this coming.
Depth in the panel my arse!!
Well done Roscommon you showed us up for what we really are.
Back to drawing board big time for us.
Sad day for.
Thought Brazil were bad!!!!!
Best of luck to Roscommon in the next round!!!

Desagov....the best forewards in Ireland could not play in this system Cavan are playing... I have a pity for our attackers

Embarrassing. The side line were so slow to make changes. They let Roscommon reel off 6 or 7 points after half time before making changes. I thought the first half was awful but we managed to be even worse in the second half. Normally I wouldn't advocate rash decisions after a game like that but I think management now has to go. They have brought us on in the last few years but a fresh approach is now required. There's a decent panel of players there (despite how they looked today).

Absolutely disgusted by that. 0-05 in 70 minutes of championship football on your home ground. Almost 40 minutes of football against Armagh before we scored from play. This monstrosity of a game plan, this "system", has really wrecked everything that was good about Cavan football in recent times. We thought we had the makings of a good senior team, yet two hammerings later to teams who won't be next nor near winning Sam has really dampened the optimism. But the thing that is grinding the gears of the fans is the robot football. It is a total reverse of Gaelic football, forwards who dont kick scores, who spend their time defending their own goal. That's part of the modern game to an extent, but we are totally lobsided in our approach, we have no scoring threat whatsoever. And we're not even good at the back, we leaked 0-16.

Serious and urgent re-think needed. We will not improve with this travesty of an approach.

pathetic. how can you justify, on average, scoring a point every 14 minutes during a championship game having been training for 7-9 months and wrapping the players in cotton wool at the expense of the club teams. Thankfully it's all over now and club teams can get back to playing

Right everyone in fairness this was gonna happen , fristly everybody got carried wit last year got to a handy quater final after playing only 1 good team MONAGHAN and got bet , the league was very poor as well just gettin over the line and no more in games . Went to croke park thinking all they had to do was turn up against a half off a Roscommon team and got bet , nothing was learned from dat game at all , to out yesterday and play they way they did , wit no plan b and leave certain players on the field for so long was a joke . Did we even win a kickout ? To play the same way for 70 minutes lol lol , Cavan football is goin no where fast I'm afraid to say and winning these ulster u 21 every year is not helping either , givin everyone false hope , total clear out and new ideas needed fast and get back to playing football not rugby and get people back into the stands and enjoying Cavan football again

I dont blame the players in any way for what went on yesterday...the whole blame lies with management.,, these players are not allowed play their natural game and are asked to do something ailien to them... I said on this forum last year when we were winning games that we were on the way to ruin with the style of football we were playing.but I was blasted for saying it... We have made no progress whatsoever under this management set-up in fact we are going backways rapidly... How people pay money to watch this type of rubbish is beyond me..???

Bad bad day for us, we had Flanagan, 2 dunnes, 2 Clarkes and Mackey missing and it showed. All 1st team players and 2 all star nominees from last year. Mackey is a huge loss. Scoring forwards needed before we go anywhere. No one should knock these lads, they worked hard all year and tried their best. Hopefully a good club championship will improve the spirits in the county.

Have to agree with the sentiments on here with regard to the game - shameful!

But I would say the overall analysis of where the team is at is more pessimistic than it should be. These are talented players, that's something! A lot more talented than anything I've seen in my lifetime - and that includes 97! But what good is talent and ability when it is being suffocated in the way it is!? Management does need to go. It's hard to know who to bring in, but if we get it right, the players are there to really step up. You don't win 4 Ulster U21s on the bounce by accident!

Regarding our forwards - Martin Dunne, Enda Reilly, Paul O'Connor, Eugene Keating, Martin Reilly, Cian Mackey and Niall McDermott - that's 7 forwards all good enough to kick scores and make use of good ball if we work out a way to allow them to play.

I'd love to know what a top team would achieve with the likes of Givney, Gearoid and Argue around the middle of the field. The 3 guys are huge, are supremely talented and could be devastating if utilised properly.

I have no major worries about the defence - 0-16 certainly looks bad and Ros kicked some shocking wides, but we did open up completely when chasing the game in the last 20mins. . .although worryingly, still couldn't create scoring chances!!

We don't have the excuse anymore that the players aren't there - they are! But we need a management team who can take them to the next level.

so facer4home, what's the point in having 30 players there if you gonna cite missing a few as the reason for losing. The players arent good enough, cavan had the Dunne's etc for the league final and still lost to the same opposition

Well said bigass 12.... The players can not be enjoying playing that kind of football no more than the poor fans that have to watch it... Hyland admitted after the Kerry game that he got his tatics wrong and should have went at them from the start instead of sitting back yet he turns round this year and deploys the same type of rubbish in every match..! He has to go and bring his silly idea of how to play football with him...!!!
