Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League Final
November 03, 2011
Carrickmacross v Currin: Drumhowan: Sunday November 6th @ 2.00pm.
When Carrickmacross and Currin meet in Drumhowan on Sunday in the final of the Monaghan Electrical sponsored intermediate football league. Carrickmacross will be seeking to complete the intermediate double for the second time and collect their fourth intermediate football league title in all. Carrickmacross last completed the intermediate double in 2006, the year that saw them promoted to senior ranks where they remained until they were relegated at the end of the 2010 season and in somewhat controversial circumstances.
They also won the intermediate football league in 1993 and 2002 and completing the double this year would be the ideal way for them to finish their domestic season. On the other hand when Currin travel to Drumhowan they will in fact be looking for their first ever intermediate football league title but Carrickmacross already promoted via the championship and Currin finishing top of the league they are already promoted and can probably approach Sunday's game in a somewhat more relaxed frame of mind than Carrickmacross who, with the best will in the world, will have one eye on their Ulster club intermediate championship semi-final date with Craigbane of Derry on November 13th in Omagh.
That said though the Emmets management and players now have that winning feeling and, barring injuries, victory in the league final would be the perfect launching pad for their bid to reach the Ulster intermediate club final. Sunday's game though affords Currin the chance to put silverware on the table in this the year that they celebrate their 125th anniversary and while they have won their way to senior ranks by virtue of competition regulations, being promoted as the team that finished top of the league, to have silverware on the table would be a major factor in their 125 celebrations and launching themselves into senior football for the 2012 season.
