Tipperary 1-12
Waterford 1-9
Gearoid Slattery saved two penalties as Tipperary edged out Waterford in today's Munster JFC quarter-final at Thurles.
Slattery saved Jason Curry's spot-kick just before half-time before repeating the feat 10 minutes after the restart when he denied former Waterford senior footballer and hurler Gary Hurney. The goalkeeper's heroics earned Tipp a semi-final date with Kerry on June 14.
Despite having wind advantage in the first half, the visitors trailed by 0-5 to 0-7 at the break. Tipp, who had U21 star Luke Boland black-carded in the 24th minute, tightened their grip on proceedings when Kevin Fox teed up Dean Lonergan for a palmed goal midway through the second half.
Sub Dylan Guiry pulled back a goal late on for Waterford, but Tommy Toomey's charges weren't to be denied.
