Corduff are Ulster champions

Corduff had that little bit too much in reserve for Swanlinbar in this entertaining Ulster Junior club championship final that was played in somewhat greasy conditions in Kingspan Breffni Park yesterday. Corduff were the more dominant team for the better part of this game and but for poor finishing might well have had the result wrapped up by the break. Cathal and Shane Connolly controlled midfield and they had outstanding performances Declan Larkin at centre back and Raymond Byrne at full forward and from that base they kept Swanlinbar pinned back for log periods but found scores difficult to come by and 10 wides in the first half alone tells its own storey. Swanlinbar held a one point lead for the opening ten minutes before Corduff got off the mark and they went on to lead at half-time by 1-4 to 0-3, Shane Malone with the goal in the 18th minute giving Corduff a lead they never subsequently relinquished. Swanlinbar started the second half well and approaching the end of the third quarter they had the margin down to the minimum with three unanswered points from Mark Cunningham free, Robbie Prior, free and Damien Leydon. That though was as good as it got for the Cavan champions and once Corduff substitute Padraig Keenan crashed to the Swanlinbar net within seconds of his introduction in the opening minute of the final quarter Corduff were on their way. Swanlinbar kept in touch but could not engineer the goal they needed if they were to have any chnace of turning it around.
