Room for Caoimhin King

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Got over a potential banana skin yesterday. A reasonable enough performance but amongst a number of frailties the backline appeared very porous at times. Surely a player of the calibre of Caoimhin King is worth a position in that back six.

Possibly, but after sunday for me 5 of the 6 would have to be keoghan, reilly tobin, burke and menton! Thats leaves McAnarney, Lenihan, King and O'Brien fighting for the last place and i'd prefer the pace of McAnarney or Lenihan tbh!

the pace of mcanarney? did you see the game yesterday???

5 of the 6 remain with the one coming in as a corner back so mcananrney and lenihan aren't corner backs, id say king is definitely worth his place, theres no reason for people to be against caomhin i don't get it, always played well for meath

I've nothing against him just think he's down the pecking order.

''always played well for meath'' you cannot say about anyone in fairness

Cant agree with that, sorry.

Time and time again over the years, a lot of posters on here have accused him ( and rightly so ) of being too loose a marker and for a corner back that is a necessity. He may he ok going forward but he is weak defensively.

Actually I've just word off a reliable source that he has left the panel, citing a breakdown in the relationship with Banty.

Joeshow

My defense would be as follows
tobin reilly keoghan
burke menton lenihan/mcanarney

Clear to see McAnarney is not a corner back after yesterday, was turned way to easily. As the middle third of the pitch always gets over crowded and several teams employ a 2man full forward line, i would be happy enough to have keoghan follow his man out the field. As for King always playing well for Meath, i disagree, just too loose and prefers to mark space rather than his man.

On another note, i think Seamus Kenny has lost the legs for intercounty level which is a shame as he is a great servant of meath football and should now only be used for 15-20 mins for his experience to see out games!

King has been the most consistent Meath senior player over the last 8 years. its very rare that his opponent ever scores (dont know why some people think he marks loosely as his opponents tally is always low compared to others). King has left the Meath squad and will hopefully return once a FAIR MANAGERIAL SYSTEM is in place and when CHRONYISM is abolished from Meath football. .

King has been a really steady performer for Meath - reads the game very well but some people regard this as being loose. Might of suffered a slight drop in confidence - but that was only when he was being played at full forward. Hadn't heard that he left the panel but he would be a loss.

Also interesting that Banty put on Keoghan when Kenny went off - seems like he is determined to blood new players. Would have thought that a more experienced player would have been the obvious choice (King, O'Connor or even Lenihan) - but great to see new players doing well.

I agree with the last message from 'The Insider'. perhaps if Banty had of played him in a half back position then maybe he might of had more confidence and stand out more. Banty has his 'favourites' and unfortunately steady players like King and many other under rated players will get over looked. Banty is on his last legs and righlt so.

firstly king should be walking on the team, by far our best defender of last 7 or 8 years, great reader of the game. I heard off a lad in dunshaughlin that he has left the panel which is a huge loss. Think he is annoyed with the selection of players who are only back from injury and exams and have missed the last 4 or 5 weeks of training and are then given their place which goes totally against bantys famous line that he is pickin lads on form, seems like a complete joke to me when they arnt even trainin.

Not the 1st Dunshaughlin lad to throw the toys out of the pram this year. You can't buy a 99 over there without geting it in the ear about Banty. Isn't that right Bupsy?
