October 24, 2016

Rathbeggan's John Harkin keeps his eye on the ball as Josh Kennedy St pails closes in during the Shield Hurling final.

Rathbeggan National School claimed the last title of the day, the Shield Hurling final, when seeing off St Pauls Ratoath. A four goal salvo from John Harkin proved crucial for the winners.

Rathbeggan NS 5-2 St Pauls Ratoath 1-1

Rathbeggan dominated the first half and two fine goals from Emmanuel Osas and John Harkin put them in control of events. St Pauls enjoyed plenty of possession but failed to convert their chances. Scott Feldman pointed and the winners went in at the break 2-1 to 0-0 in front.

Harkin extended that lead with his third goal but Ratoath were back in the game when Tomas Corbett found the back of the Rathbeggan net. The winners were back in control again when Feldman sent over his second point and Harkin crashed home his third and fourth goal to seal victory.

After the game Rathbeggan captain Peter Connolly was presented with the hurling shield.
