Gaels promoted
August 17, 2012Gaels had defeated nh Malachi 1.16 to 1.4 in their league game and had to wait an anxious few minutes for the final score from Castletown, after a tense wait with many huddled on the bank in the ramparts watching via twitter and phone call, word came through that the clans had won by two points and as a result handed the title to their town neighbors.
If the game was to come down to score difference it was clear that the Gaels had this in mind as they outplayed a weakened nh Malachi side in the first have scoring 11 points with Malachi not regrestering a score to leave the half time score 11 points to no score. The Gaels scores coming from the very influential Derek chilly 4 points and other points coming from
Sean McCann, Gary shevlin, Andrew Coleman, sean fee and niall hearty.
The Malachi's were not for lying down in the second half and came out more determined scoring a goal from feidhim Daly and points from pearse mcskeen 1 point and 3 points from Gerry hamill. It was squeaky bum time for the Gaels as news came through from castle town that the mochats had taken a two pint lead and clans were down to fourteen men.
Gaels settled themselves and a goal and two point from Derek crilly , 3 points from sean fee left the score line in the end Gaels 1.16 the Malachi 1.4.
It was a nervous few minutes before word came through that the Gaels had won the title.
Fair play to the county board the div 2 cup arrived at the ramparts a couple of minutes after the final whistle as they had to see where the title was going. Gaels captain sean fee was presented with the cup and it set off jubilant scenes in the ramparts as the Gaels team and supporters celebrated their victory.
