St Lachtain's and Kilkenny star Michael Kavanagh
Michael Kavanagh, winner of eight All-Ireland senior titles with Kilkenny, has called time on his intercounty career.
In 14 years of championship hurling Kavanagh won an extraordinary 13 Leinster SHC titles, suffering a single defeat in the province to Wexford in 2004.
The St Lachtain's man was corner back in seven All-Ireland (2000, '02, '03, '06, '07, '08 and '09) wins but had to be content with a place on the bench as the Cat's reclaimed the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2011.
"There comes a time when you know it is time to go. That time has come for me," explained Kavanagh in the Kilkenny People.
"I arrived for a golden era in Kilkenny hurling and I got to play with and against some players who will forever be remembered as giants of the game."
