Sutcliffe rues not following Donegal example

Danny Sutcliffe believes the Dublin hurlers should have pushed on like their Donegal football counterparts did last year.

After winning the Allianz League title and reaching the All-Ireland semi-final in 2011, Anthony Daly's side failed to build on that progress last season and suffered relegation in the league and an early championship exit.

"Maybe we wandered a small bit and just thought that we'd be near August again," Sutcliffe said at the launch of the Pieta House 'Mind Our Men' campaign which will see Dublin the hurlers and footballers sport a logo for the suicide and self-harm clinic in the coming weeks.

"This year it was drilled in that we just take it game by game and carry that process through the league and into the Wexford game (on June 8).

"It was frustrating because in one way we were in a similar stage as Donegal last year. They were beaten by Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final in 2011 and we lost at the same stage that year.

"But then they took a step forward last year and we just took three or four back. And then you look at the relegation game against Galway. They went one way and we went the other after that so that was frustrating too.

"Maybe we just went away from what we based things on in 2011 in terms of our work ethic. This year we've really gone back to that and have just tunnel-vision for every game."
