Mayo voted 'Yes'
May 27, 2005
County chairman Paddy Naughton has confirmed that Mayo voted in favour of giving Central Council power to decide on whether soccer or rugby should be played in Croke Park.
Mayo's stance was finally revealed at the Board's monthly meeting last Monday night. Rule 42 was amended at Congress after delegates voted heavily in favour of opening up HQ on a temporary basis.
But nobody knew for sure how the Mayo executive had voted. Naughton had decided to say nothing until the next County Board meeting and shed light on the county's vote when queried by a club delegate:
"I voted in favour because I firmly believe it was the correct and proper decision to take."
