The start of each year sees players from all over the country transfer clubs for various reasons, the foremost one these times being in search of work mostly on foreign shores. In the four months of this year alone twenty six GAA players from County Clare have transferred from the county. Of this figure, ten have gone to Canada, four to England and the remaining twelve to other counties. In turn fifteen have transferred back to clubs in Clare, four from England, two from the United States, one from Australia and eight from other counties.

Among those to make a return is Brian O'Connell, the Clare captain in 2009, who has returned from Australia to his native Wolfe Tones and is
back training with the county team. Two other former Clare hurlers have also transferred back to their native clubs, John Reddan has transferred back to Sixmilebridge and Colm Forde has returned to Ogonnelloe. Former county senior footballer Alan Daly has gone to Claregalway in Galway from Kilrush while former Westmeath U21 hurler Thomas Gillen has gone to Clonlara.
