Denn stay senior while Belturbet take the dreaded drop to intermediate
Denn have retained their senior championship status for 2014 after being given a walkover by Belturbet ahead of tonight's Cavan SFC relegation final.

Raymond Galligan's team had struggled in the newly formatted competition this year and found themselves in a last chance saloon against Belturbet after defeat to Drumgoon earlier this month, threatening the top tier status the gained in 2003.

However, their opponents' decision to concede the final last night means that Denn they can now breathe easy as they are set to compete in the SFC again next season.

As for Belturbet, they'll be competing in the intermediate ranks next year for the first time since 1996, having also recently suffered demotion from Division 1B of the All County Football League.

The Rories made a promising start to life in the senior championship when they reached the semi-finals back in 1997 and made the last four stage again 10 years later when they were unlucky to lose out to eventual winners Cavan Gaels.

Tonight's game had originally been fixed for last Friday evening, but due to a waterlogged pitch at Our Lady of Lourdes Park in Mullahoran it was re-scheduled for this evening at Kingspan Breffni Park 3G.
