Ballymachugh's James Kiernan
Ballymachugh 0-10
Kildallan 0-6

Ballymachugh got back to winning ways with victory over Kildallan in Sheelin Park last Saturday evening. Despite the wet and windy conditions the game was less than a minute old when Christopher Kiernan raised the white flag for the first time for the home side.

Two minutes later the lead was extended when James Kiernan played a sublime ball to the chest of Barry Kiernan who on the turn put the ball between the sticks. Moments later Kildallan had Niall Crowe to thank for denying Barry Kiernan a certain goal by getting back on the line and making a superb block. With Kildallan struggling to craft an attack, the Hugh's took full advantage with Richard Fitzsimons converting his sides third of the day. The lead was four points in the 16th minute when Killian Smith put the finishing touches to a fine move after good work by James Kiernan, Christopher Rooney and Kieran Goldrick. Goldrick then got his own score minutes after when he charged through the oppositions defence and slotted over. Cathal Sheridan finally got the away side's first score in the 20th minute with a fine individual effort from distance.

This was quickly followed by a pointed free from corner forward Shane Reilly. The gap was quickly restored to four when quick thinking from Killian Smith allowed Rooney to get his second point of the evening. Padraig Sheridan then sent a fine sideline ball into Aodhain Kiernan who got his first of the day. Kildallan were denied a certain goal in the 25th minute when Antony Baxter made a last ditch block after Reilly had taken the ball around goalkeeper Paddy Baxter. The lead was increased to six point's seconds later when Barry Kiernan collected the ball after Killian smiths effort came back off the post. With half time fast approaching to the relief of the away side they were very fortunate not to fall further behind when Finbar Sheridan sent his shot wide while one on one with Kildallan keeper Ronan Fitzpatrick. Daithi Neary cut the lead to five with the last score of the half with a fantastic score from 45 metres.

Kildallan came out for the second half with a determined attitude but were pegged back further with a point from centre forward James Kiernan. However they did get their reward in the 39th minute when Daithi Neary got his second point of the game. In the 43rd minute Richard Fitzsimons kicked his side's last point of the game to leave the score at 0-10 to 0-3. Despite this draught Kildallan failed to take full advantage as they only managed another three points themselves with all of them coming from the boot of full forward Darragh McGovern. Ballymachugh in the meantime could only manage one wide in the process as well as a number of attempts that dropped short. Both sides can now switch their attention the championship for the weeks ahead.
