MFC: Lazarus-like Joe's deny Gaels

St Joseph's Conor Higgins takes a tumble as Cavan Gaels Philip Mulligan and Daniel Mulligan close in during the Cavan MFC Final at Breffni Park
St Joseph's 2-12
Cavan Gaels 2-12
St Joseph's and Cavan Gaels will do it all again next Sunday after both sides played out a thrilling draw yesterday at Kingspan Breffni Park in the Division One Minor Football Championship final.
The Gaels looked to be on their way to an 11th triumph at this level as they led by eight points coming into the closing stages as a lethal full-forward line of Andrew Graham, Paul O'Connor and Pauric Sexton conjured 2-2 between them from the beginning of the final quarter.
However, there was simply no giving in by the Arva/Killeshandra amalgamation and when a long-ball into the square from midfielder Cein Sweeney bounced over the head of Gaels 'keeper Morgan Young it offered hope for the Saints.
Still five points adrift, Joe's had it all to do coming into the last five minutes and managed to pull two more points out of the hat heading into injury-time when wing-forward Gary Tubman dummied his way through and lashed in a brilliant equaliser.
Somehow there was still time for either team to win it, but the chances went a begging and the two teams must now meet again this Sunday at the same venue before the junior championship final between Munterconnacht and Swanlinbar.
