Westmeath Camogie Notes
July 09, 20122012 will do down as a very successful year for Westmeath Feile following last weekend's finals in Dublin. Raharney were first to kick off the weekend with a comprehensive win over their hosts Whitehall on Thursday on a scoreline of 10-9 to no score. They followed this up with wins over Ballyboden/St. Endas (14-4 to no score ) and St. Bridgets of Mayo (8-2 to 1-1) to qualify for the semi-final on Friday evening against Athleague. The semi-final was a closer affair but Raharney again came out on top winning 3-1 to 1-1. The final took place in Parnell Park on Saturday morning at 11am and unfortunately Raharney had to give way to Naas on a scoreline of 3-2 to 0-3. Although undoubtedly disappointed at not winning the final the Raharney team can be justifiably proud of their performances at Feile. Well done to all the girls, their mentors and parents on representing the county so well.
Meanwhile, Aoife Corcoran from Castletown Geoghegan, was representing Westmeath in the Skills competition. Having finished a very credible 9th and 7th in 2010 and 2011 respectively, Aoife was hoping for a top 5 finish this year but when the final results were announced this very talented young player had surpassed this goal - and the other 21 competitor - and captured the All-Ireland title for Westmeath for the first time. This was an outstanding achievement by any standard and a proud day for Westmeath Camogie. Aoife was presented with her trophy by a delighted Aileen Lawlor.
County Team
The County Team were out in the All Ireland Junior A Championship again this week when they travelled to Oram to take on Monaghan. According to the wall of the clubhouse 'Big Tom' captained the local junior football team to double success in 1963.
Fresh from their comprehensive win over Offaly the previous week, Westmeath were determined to put back to back wins together and had the upper hand from the start. A struggling Monaghan team found it difficult to keep up and indeed only started with 13 players with a further player arriving after the game started. As with the previous week Dinah Loughlin was on target with her freetaking and but for some good work between the posts by the Monaghan goalie the final score could have been worse than the final 6-23 to 0-3. On Saturday next, 14th July, the team play host to Cavan in the next round.

Senior Championship
Round 3 of the Championship resulted in wins for Raharney over Clonkill and Lough Lene Gaels over St. Munnas whilst Castletown Geoghegan and Delvin drew.
Junior Championship
Brownstown had a narrow win over St. Bridgets in the Junior Championship, while Crookedwood and Drumraney drew.
Intermediate League
Round 4 of the Intermediate League takes place this Wednesday, 11th July. Fixtures - St. Bridgets v Drumraney; Clonkill v St. Munnas; Castletown v Brownstown; Raharney v Lough Lene Gaels.
U16 semi-finals
Following the leagues stages of the U16 championship the semi-finals took place on Monday 9th July. Pairings were Lough Lene Gaels v St. Bridgets and Raharney v Castletown Geoghegan. Results next week.
U12 League
Results: Clonkill beat St. Oliver Plunketts; Drumraney beat St. Bridgets; Raharney beat Cullion. The games between Castletown and Crookedwood and Brownstown and Lough Lene Gaels didn't go ahead.
U8/U10
The next round of U8/U10 county blitzs will be held this Saturday, 14th July. Clonkill will host Brownstown and Castlepollard; Drumraney host St. Oliver Plunketts and Cullion; St. Munnas host Raharney and Delvin; Crookedwood host Castletown Geoghegan, Lough Lene Gaels and Longford. All blitzs commence at 11am.
Lough Lene Gaels Run
Lough Lene Gaels Camogie Club are holding their Lough Lene 5k Road Challenge on Friday 13th July at 7:30pm. Registration takes place in the Lough Lene Inn from 6pm to 7:20pm. Adults €10, Juveniles/Walkers €5.
5K Fundraiser
