Darragh Egan is to be appointed as Wexford's new senior hurling manager.

The former Tipperary coach will replace Davy Fitzgerald, who stepped down after a five-year stay in July. Model County officials moved quickly for the 35-year-old Kiladangan clubman who only vacated his role with Tipp when Liam Sheedy stepped down as manager less than three weeks ago.

Egan previously played senior hurling for Tipp as a goalkeeper and forward, winning two All-Ireland medals.

A statement from Wexford GAA this morning confirming the news read: "Wexford GAA are delighted to announce that we will be proposing Darragh Egan as our new Senior Hurling Manager to the County Board for ratification later this month.

"A native of Kiladangan, Co. Tipperary, Darragh has won two All-Ireland titles as a player for Tipperary and was a selector and coach in Liam Sheedy’s backroom team, winning an All-Ireland in 2019. He is principal in Kiladangan National School and is heavily involved in Kiladangan GAA Club."
