ALLEY BOYS ON ST. PETER'S WINNING TEAM
Well done to the young Buffers Alley hurlers who contributed in a big way to the St. Peter's College win in the quarter-final of the Leinster Senior Hurling "A" colleges' game win over Birr Community College on Saturday last. Seán Murphy and Andrew Kenny played with commitment throughout the hour and are now looking forward to the semi-final outing versus Kilkenny CBS who had a win over Good Counsel College at the weekend. Ross Donohoe and Oliver O'Leary, who are younger members of the club, are also substitutes on this senior panel. All four are to be congratulated and wished the best of luck in their next game on Saturday 18th February.

BUFFERS ALLEY DINNER DANCE 2012
The Buffers Alley Dinner Dance/ Medal presentation was held in Seán Ógs on Fri. night last with Diarmuid Devereux (Co. Chairman), Seán & Catríona Doyle (Club sponsors), Fr. S. Larkin (PP Kilmuckridge) and Fr. J. Doyle (CC Monamolin) joining the camogie and hurling fraternity in what was a very enjoyable gathering.

The occasion was to celebrate the achievements of 2011 in what was an exceptionally successful year for Buffers Alley Club with a historic haul of medals presented to camogie players, hurlers and footballers in several different grades on the night. The extensive array of silverware on display on the night served to remind club members of the successes and hard fought and won battles from the previous year

Seamus Kenny, club Chairman congratulated all the team managers and mentors for their dedication throughout the past year. All these volunteers work long hours ensuring that teams are prepared for the games. He paid special tribute to our main sponsor Seán Doyle for his loyalty to the club. It was a unique occasion with so many teams winning finals and in particular the Junior D hurlers who brought back the title to the club for the first time. The U21 hurlers played their hearts out in the Co. Final springing a surprise by overcoming the bookies favourites Oylegate-Glenbrien in a county final that displayed nothing short of the best of hurling. Seamus called all captains, Bobby Kenny (Senior League), Barry Turner (Intermediate League), Tom Kavanagh (Junior D Hurling District and County, Darren O'Brien District and County and Tomás O'Leary, Junior C Football to introduce their panels for the medal presentation which was a spectacular occasion with upwards of 80 individuals receiving medals presented by the distinguished guests.

Diarmuid Devereux, in his address, applauded the club for their achievements on and off the playing field during 2011 with the hurling club winning seven finals and the camogie section winning two titles. He thanked Buffers Alley for their continued support to Wexford GAA in providing excellent pitch and indoor facilities. He said that Wexford GAA has experienced a barren period in hurling and haven't graced Croke Park for quite a number of years. It is now up to clubs like Buffers Alley to put in a huge effort with both our underage and adult teams to ensure that we produce good hurlers for Wexford GAA in the years ahead. He spoke of a proposed winter indoor league for the six clubs (including the Alley) which should be a financial boost. He had special mention to all the sponsors who continuously help the GAA clubs and county in so many different ways and it is important that we all appreciated the good work they are doing in this hard economic climate.

Camogie club chairperson Melanie Ní Dhuinn initially reflected on the momentous success of the Wexford county Camogie teams at Senior and Intermediate levels with the Seniors completed a historic double in winning back to back All Ireland titles and also bringing home the Intermediate crown which was especially memorable for Buffers Alley with stalwart defender Frances Doran in the no 4 jersey of the left corner back berth. She remarked how these All Ireland final victories are not only significant in their own right but also serve to inspire and encourage young, upcoming and aspiring club players to compete at the highest levels with a number of current Buffers Alley camogie players in training with county teams from underage up through to adult ranks. The chairperson congratulated the victorious U16 team who were successful in overcoming arch rivals Castletown in a thrilling U16 Roinn final and she also paid tribute to the gallant U18 girls who lost out to Oylegate in the U18 final. She extended congratulations in the adult grade to the victorious Intermediate team on their memorable league final victory played in very challenging and exigent weather conditions last October when they overcame a formidable challenge from Oylegate in what was a rematch of a previous championship fixture in which Oylegate had gotten the upper hand. The determination and commitment of all involved in securing victory in the final was she said both impressive and encouraging and would serve the club well in future outings.

In acknowledging the many sponsors who generously supported the various teams in the camogie club, she extended sincere thanks and appreciation. The club is extremely grateful for all sponsorship, donations and contributions received. Sponsors have always been exceptionally generous and supportive of the club notwithstanding the very difficult economic circumstances sponsors now find themselves in and their continued support to the club is greatly appreciated.

Intermediate team captain, Noelle Doran was called on to introduce the Intermediate players who were then presented with their League final medals by Fr. Doyle CC (Monamolin). The chairperson presented All Ireland medal winner Frances Doran with a framed action shot photograph from that memorable day on Sep 11 2011 when Wexford overcame Antrim in the curtain raiser Intermediate final in Croke Park. Frances graciously accepted her presentation and thanked everyone who had supported her throughout her camogie career from her time at U12 right through to adult grades.

After a delicious meal provided by the staff in Seán Ógs, dancing followed into the early hours with Stephen Murphy and his band Quest providing the music. Johnny O'Leary was the lucky winner of the door prize. So here's to another year and hopefully many successes will come the Alley way.
