A quarter-final place will be the prize on offer for the winner of our next match v The Downs. For the loser all sorts of uncertainty will loom on the final day. The newcomer to the GAA community Jeopardy will be out and about on the day.
Killucan dominated the early stages and had the ball in the Shamrocks net after four minutes when Sami Clarke side footed Devin Hill’s pass past Eoin Doran. An aggressive run by Seán Leech drew a foul and Devin Hill pointed the resultant free to give Killucan a four-point lead. A good save from David Bryan foiled Jordan Warde’s goal attempt before Denis Corroon’s pointed free opened Shamrock’s account. Jordan Warde added a second point immediately from David Bryan’s restart. Killucan dominated but wasted a number of good scoring opportunities.

A great save by Eoin Doran from a Seán Leech shot prevented a third Killucan goal. Paddy Fagan and Sami Clarke exchanged points. A Denis Corroon free on the restart edged Shamrocks ahead and was followed by a similar score from Eamonn Cunneen. It would be over twenty minutes before Killucan were to score again. Clarke’s Bar Junior Football Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-7 The Downs 0-11
Mullingar Shamrocks got back on the winning trial with a great victory over The Downs in Springfield on Friday night. It was a victory against the odds as we lost Alan Cashman to a double yellow card early in the game. In a game in which the wind played a significant factor Shamrocks led by 0-7 to 0-1 at the interval after kicking some great long range points, with 0-3 from Pearse Corroon particularly noteworthy.
The Downs chipped into this lead during the second half but goals from Trevor Keena and the magnificent Dónal O’Donoghue secured the victory. Trevor cut in along the end line for his three pointer and Dónal with a sublime effort chipped the goalkeeper to seal the victory. At the other end, Philly Shaw pulled off a few fine saves to keep our interests in the championship alive as Conor Fitzpatrick continues to impress with his great defending.

Under-8 & Under-10 Go Games Blitz
Well done to all the boys who travelled to the Downs GAA club this morning for the Under-10 and to Castletown for the Under-8 Blitz hosted by Lilliput Gaels.
All the boys played really well and showed great skills and teamwork in all games with the boys working tirelessly for each other with some great scoring on display too.
It was also great to see some of the Under-8 boys who helped out the Under-10s and stayed on- they were well able to compete at that level and the Under-10 coaches were delighted with them…
Thanks again to all the parents for supporting
Under-20 Football Championship: Caulry GAA 0-16 Mullingar Shamrocks 2-8.
Mullingar Shamrocks dominated the early exchanges and an early attack finished with Alex Sheerin breaking through on goal and crashing the ball to the net for a superb goal. A brilliant save by goalkeeper Conor Hynes prevented a second goal with Hynes deflecting Conor Heffernan’s shot over the crossbar. Ryan Kelly pointed and after a monumental series of passes Alex Sheerin had a third point for Shamrocks which proved to be Shamrocks’ last before half-time. This score illustrated one of the essential differences between the teams: the laboured build-up of the home team against the more direct play of the visitors. Wind assisted in the opening half Caulry with efforts from Coley Parker, Lee Corcoran and Trevor O’Donovan kept knocking over the points that secured an interval lead of 0-8 to 1-3.
Caulry outscored Shamrocks 0-4 to 0-1 in the opening ten minutes of the second half and extended their lead to an impressive 0-12 to 1-4. Shamrocks rallied and with just a few minutes remaining the sides were level 0-13 to 1-10. A few bad Shamrocks wides didn’t help the cause at this stage. Gavin Pierce with a great goal inspired the comeback; Ryan Kelly kicked three lovely points; a great passing move with the sides level split the Caulry defence but Gavin Pierce was again foiled by good goalkeeping. Two late frees to Caulry secured the victory with Adam Glynn’s great tackling penalised for the lead point.
This result combined with the draw between Moate All-Whites and St Loman’s sent Mullingar Shamrocks crashing out of the championship.
Mullingar Shamrocks: Eoin Doran; Ty Masterson, Adam Glynn, Ben Sheerin; Tadhg Sheridan, Dylan Carey, Nathan Cornally; Ciaran Kiernan, Callum Rigney Clyne; Conor Heffernan (0-1), Ryan Kelly (0-4), Paul Keating; Gavin Pierce (1-0), Luke McCabe, Alex Sheerin (1-1)
