Slevins Coaches Senior A Hurling Championship Semi final

Lough Lene Gaels..................1.16

Castletown Geoghegan.........1.15

Lough Lene Gaels, in a dramatic and pulsating stoppage time finale, scored a late goal to defeat defending Senior A Hurling Champions Castletown Geoghegan,  in a very well contested semi final of the Senior A  Hurling Championship, played at Mullingar's TEG Cusack Park on Sunday September 24th.

Lough Lene Gaels, competed with Castletown Geoghegan very well throughout this fixture. Lough Lene Gaels 0.09 Castletown Geoghegan 0.09, was the half time match scoreline.

Lough Lene Gaels 0.15 Castletown Geoghegan 0.11, was the match scoreline after 20 minutes of second half play.

With two minutes of normal playing time remaining, Lough Lene Gaels, then leading on a 0.16 to 0.13 scoreline, conceded a penalty. Castletown Geoghegan scored a goal from that penalty to level matters at 0.16 to 1.13. The Black and Ambers then pointed a free in the last minute of normal playing time, to edge one point ahead.

Lough Lene Gaels looked to be heading to a semi final defeat, as CTG looked to have timed their surge superbly towards a victory, with both purpose and thought. Four minutes of stoppage time was then at this point in play,  indicated by the fourth official.

In the third minute of that stoppage time, Shane Williams, from a long range free, sent the ball into the Castletown Geoghegan goalmouth. Eoin Daly then immediately had a close range low netbound shot superbly stopped and parried by a CTG defender. The ball though came to Derek McNicholas, who quickly crashed the ball high to the roof of the CTG net from very close range, sending LLG supporters into raptures of delight.

Castletown Geoghegan then in reply, subsequently pointed a free in response.

A one point margin now separated the teams, favouring Lough Lene Gaels.

Lough Lene Gaels managed to successfully play out the tense and exciting phase of play that followed, to win a semi final fixture in this competition for the first time since 2009.

Raharney will provide the opposition for Lough Lene Gaels in the final of this competition.

It is important to remember that Lough Lene Gaels were on the receiving end of a Raharney masterclass of team hurling, in a Round 4 Divisional fixture of this competition.

Lough Lene Gaels 2.07 Raharney 2.21, was the result of that particular Round 4 Divisional fixture.
