Cill Óige Ladies Club Notes

June 14, 2021

It was a memorable week for Cill Óige Ladies who played their first matches at U12, U14, U16 and Junior Levels. Our underage teams played some great football and it was exciting to see the teams kitted out in the new jerseys which include the team moto “Is fearr cairde na Or” Friendship is better than Gold.

The Cill Óige Ladies Junior team played their first match on Saturday evening last in ideal conditions in Castledaly. St Barry’s from Roscommon fielded a strong outfit in this lively challenge. Fiona Fox had the honour of kicking the first ever point for Cill Óige Ladies at adult level with a fine shot from distance. Another point by Michelle Molloy followed by a brace from Orla Fox and Hazel Kelly left the half-time score Cill Óige Ladies 0-6 St Barry’s 3-6. The sides could have been closer but for a number shots hitting the woodwork, most notably Emily Fielding’s rasping shot crashing off the crossbar. With changes in the line-out after the break, Cill Óige Ladies kept up their strong display and the recently introduced Michelle King drove powerfully to the net to reduce the margin further. Rachel Duffy, Anna Sheerin, and Kacey Rotheroe (2) all chipped with points to narrow the gap at one stage to 3 points but St Barry’s rallied with some fine scores of their own in the last quarter to run out 4-10 to 1-10 winners. It was a wonderful first outing for the girls with many impressive performances, and much potential to build upon. Best wishes to Mairead Fox who sustained a nasty injury during the game.
