The Late John O’Brien
It was with great sadness that we heard the news of the death of John O'Brien of Millmount during the week and we extend deepest sympathy to the O’Brien family, especially to John’s wife Mary, his son Declan, and daughters Ursula, Elaine (Thornton), Denise (Walshe), Catherine (Smyth), Niamh and Anne-Marie (Swarbrigg) and to his sisters Peg (Farrell) and Josie (O’Sullivan), and to members of his extended family, neighbours, and many friends.
John O’ Brien was a loyal Mullingar Shamrocks supporter and in the glory days of the Street League was centrally involved with John Kelly and Malachy Keaveney in organising and coaching the Millmount street league team when many of the stars of the 1980s-1990s developed their football skills. John was involved with Shamrocks’ underage teams throughout the 80s alongside friend and neighbour John Kelly. Declan and Anne-Marie O’Brien represented Mullingar Shamrocks at all levels from underage to senior and John’s grandchildren Ellie and Billy Swarbrigg now continue the family tradition as part of the Na SeamrÓigí group.
