Mount Sion and Abbeyside have booked their places in the Waterford SHC semi-finals.
On Friday evening, referee Seaghan Walsh brandished four red cards in the second half as Mount Sion overcame last year’s premier intermediate champions Ferrybank by 0-21 to 0-15.
Ferrybank manager Paddy Mullally, defender Graham Coady (two yellow cards) and selector John Burns were dismissed along with Mount Sion selector Ricky Freeman as the game ended on a sour note. The sides were level before points Sion finished the first half with points from Alan Kirwan (two) and Donal Power to take a 0-11 to 0-8 lead into the break.
Sion pulled away in the third quarter with Austin Gleeson finishing with 0-9 to his credit.
In last night’s floodlit quarter-final at Fraher Field, county U20 star Charlie Treen bagged 1-4 to help Abbeyside to a 2-19 to 0-15 victory over neighbours Dungarvan.
