Ballygunner are just 60 minutes away from completing a remarkable eight-in-a-row of Waterford SHC successes after overcoming a stern test from Mount Sion in today's semi-final at Walsh Park.

The Gunners were pushed to the pin of their collars by the city outfit but a couple of late Dessie Hutchinson points saw them over the line in the closing stages as it finished 0-21 to 1-16.

Austin Gleeson's early goal via the penalty spot had Mount Sion narrowly ahead by 0-6 to 1-4 at the first water-break before the holders reeled off the last four points of the opening period to lead by two at the break and doubled their advantage on the resumption.

The margin was back down to the minimum when the influential Gleeson fired over in the 30th minute but they couldn't find the leveller though as numerous chance went abegging.

Mount Sion were also left to rue a couple of missed goal chances at crucial stages in the contest with All-Star netminder Stephen O'Keeffe showing Waterford fans what they've been missing.

At Fraher Field, Clonea secured their senior status and condemned Ballyduff Upper to relegation following a comfortable 2-23 to 0-14 victory, with Ciaran Kirwan helping himself to 1-4 for the winners.
