Former Waterford captain Stephen Molumphy is to succeed Fintan O'Connor as Kerry senior hurling manager.

Molumphy's name will be put forward for ratification at the next county board meeting on September 29. The Ballyduff Upper clubman will be bringing Pat Bennett and Shane Briggs to the Kingdom with him, with a third selector from the Kerry county champions set to be added later.

The 37-year-old won two Munster SHC medals, one National League title and an All-Star during an illustrious inter-county career. He also skippered his club to a county senior championship last year and served as a Wexford and Waterford selector under Davy Fitzgerald and Liam Cahill respectively.

His appointment comes a month after Fintan O'Connor called time on his five-year reign as Kerry boss.
