It took two outings and 140 minutes of hurling but Robert Emmetts were eventual crowned London senior hurling champions for 2021 after defeating St Gabriel’s at Ruislip in this afternoon’s final replay.
It finished 2-21 to 1-18 at McGovern Park, where Emmetts secured their second crown in three years after forcing extra time and netting two quickfire goals early in the added periods.
A couple of Shane Lawless points had St Gabriels into a 0-5 to 0-3 lead by the first water break of this decider, before Emmetts hit back with frees and a brace from Davy Nolan at the other end would leave the scoreboard reading 0-8 apiece at the half.
St Gabriel’s hit the first four points of the restart and looked on the way towards a first title in three years until a late free from their opponents forced extra time where two goals in the space of a minute proved decisive for the victors.
