St Gabriel’s retained the London senior hurling championship title yesterday thanks to a 2-15 to 1-13 win against Kilburn Gaels at McGovern Park, Ruislip.

It was Kilburn that made the better start to this decider in the English capital, with the scores of Mark O’Dwyer, Cian Kavanagh and Enda Egan putting them three to the good.

They kept in front until London captain Sean Glynn struck a 28th minute goal for the holders that saw them go on to edge a 1-5 to 0-7 lead at half-time.

The second-half saw St Gabriel’s exert their authority on the game as Rory Lodge, Jack Morrissey, Conor Carroll and Glynn sent over unanswered scores.

The hammer blow was struck in the 45th minute when Morrissey fired in a superb goal to the top corner of the Gaels' net.

The trailers got a goal back through David Devine with three minutes left in normal time, but St Gabriel’s were able to see out the five-point win which marks their 20th SHC triumph.
